FABIO CAPELLO wants the Chelsea manager’s job.

Capello: Let me boss Chelsea, he wants 'one more challenge'

The former England boss has told Roman Abramovich’s advisors he is the man to take over from Roberto Di Matteo.

But sources close to Capello insist there has been no offical contact with the Blues owner, despite reports in Italy claiming he will be unveiled next week.

Capello quit his £6million-a-year England job in February in protest at the FA’s decision to strip John Terry of the national captaincy.

But the Italian still lives in London and has been stressing to agents close to Abramovich that he wants to work for a top club.

He is even prepared to join Chelsea on a one-year deal to allow them to pursue long-term target Pep Guardiola after his sabbatical.

Capello recently said: “I have refused good offers from clubs in China and other parts of the world.

“I want one more challenge with a big team able to fight for trophies.”

Abramovich is unconvinced that interim boss Di Matteo is the long-term solution.
