Liverpool striker Mario Balotelli has been ruled out of Liverpool’s Capital One Cup clash with Bournemouth after irritating a groin strain that had previously kept him on the side-lines for a month before coming on as a second half substitute in the 3-0 loss to Manchester United on Sunday.

The 24-year-old Italian will remain at the Melwood training facility with the hope that treatment will have him available for Sunday match against Arsenal.

Meanwhile Glen Johnson who was substituted early in the match at Old Trafford will be out for a month leaving the right-back position to be filled by on-loan Javier Manquillo.
