Tottenham Hotspurs top player Gareth Bale has said the he prefers playing against Champions League teams, as many of the clubs in the Premiership are just too defensive in their play which makes for dull football.

There has been plenty of speculation about the Welshman leaving to play for Real Madrid where he would certainly be playing football next season.

Spurs however have said that the 23-year-old will be staying at White Hart Lane for at least one more season and with the addition of Paulinho and a few others hope that next season they will be back where their 26 goal leading scorer likes to play best.

“When you play in the Premier League against a lower-end team, they set up to defend all the time,” Bale said in an interview with Esquire.

“They set up to block you off.

“But when you play in the Champions League, all the teams are used to winning every week so it’s more of an open attacking game, its end-to-end.”

He added: “The music is a massive thing.

“When we first got into the Champions League, it was one of the things most of the lads were looking forward to, hearing it in the stadium.

“Its things like that which makes it special.”
