AS Monaco considers a summer bid for Fernando Torres

Big spending Ligue 1 club Monaco is putting a bid together for Chelsea striker Fernando Torres according to the website Football Direct News  with former Chelsea manager Claudio Ranieri keen to add an experienced striker to his squad.

Since Torres moved to Chelsea from Liverpool he has never lived up to his £50 million price tag and the massive wages the west London club pay him, and at 29-years-old he now has no future in the young team that Portuguese manager Jose Mourinho is building at Stamford Bridge meaning that the Blues would be open to selling him during the summer.

Chelsea is however also looking at a couple of Atletico Madrid players including striker Diego Costa, and it was thought that Torres might return to his former club as part of any deal.

At this stage in Torres’s career a move to tax free Monaco just may be what the doctor ordered and the fact that the top tier of French football is less competitive than the Premiership could see the man who regularly netted for Liverpool regain the type of form he once enjoyed.
