Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger is hoping to beat incoming Chelsea boss Antonio Conte for the signature of AS Roma defender Kostas Manolas once the summer transfer window opens on the 1st of July.

After only signing goalkeeper Petr Cech last summer, the Gunners boss is expected to splash the cash on a defender, midfielder and a world class striker.

The Greece international centre-back impressed Frenchman, Wenger while playing in the Champions League against Arsenal for his former club Olympiakos.

Now according to British daily tabloid newspaper the Daily Mirror, the 24-year-old defender l is now a priority signing for Arsenal as Wenger plans a major revamp of his squad over the summer.

Getting the Greek defender to move to the Emirates might not be as simple as you would think, as incoming Chelsea manager Antonio Conte is a big fan of Manolas and may see him as the ideal replacement for John Terry.

Several of Manolas’s Roma teammates including Miralem Pjanic and Arturo Vidal are also being linked with a move to Stamford Bridge meaning it might be possible for Chelsea to make a job lot offer to the Italian Serie A side who are expected to lose many of their best players this summer.
