In one of the best games seen this season Arsenal just failed to progress in the Champions League, even after winning 3-0.

Arsenals win not enough to overcome AC Milan

It was a tale of two legs played out last night at the Emirates with Arsene Wenger’s side needing to come from four goals down after their first leg defeat in Milan.

From the kick off the tempo of the game was electrifying with the Gunners throwing all they had at Milan.

An early goal by Koscielny, followed by goals from Rosicky, and a van Persie penalty put the gunners needing only one more goal to tie the match over the two legs.

The second half while still exciting could not bring Arsenal that fourth goal that they so badly needed.

By this time Milan had settled, and came close to scoring on a couple of occasions with time running out you could see that Milan started to play the clock with posession, and also the referee by going down even under the lightest of tackles.

At the final whistle Wenger was involved in an argument with officials, and you could tell he was not happy with some of the decisions.

In Wenger’s press conference following the match he had this to say: “I was not happy with the referee tonight because I felt he gave many free-kicks in the middle of the park.
“Every time they went down a free-kick was given for them, and they sensed that very quickly and they used it very well.”

Wenger also had to bring up his feelings about the 4-0 loss at the San Siro saying: “It is maybe an easy excuse, but I feel UEFA has a lot to answer for because if you arrive at 7.46pm you get fined, but you can play on a bad pitch and they don’t say a word.

“I just feel it is part of the respect for people who pay their money and go to a football game and expect conditions where you can play football.

“That’s what we try to do here and it is unacceptable for UEFA to accept pitches like the one in Milan.”
