Arsenal will try and tie forward The Walcott down with a new five-year-deal now that the 25-year-old has just 12 months remaining on his existing contract with the club.

The Gunners are keen to avoid repeat of the situation that occurred three years ago when Walcott’s last contract was in its final year which led to talk of him leaving the club.

Talks are due to begin on Monday with manager Arsene Wenger having identified Walcott as a vital part of his team, and the Gunners would like to wrap up a deal which will see Walcott become one of the clubs top earners by the end of March.

With Danny Welbeck still injured and Wenger wanting to give Alexis a rest, after the Chilean complained of a sore hamstring, Walcott is expected to feature in today’s clash with Aston Villa at the Emirates.
