Arsenal to plug the gap in midfield by signing £33 m La Liga star

According to British daily tabloid newspaper the Sun Arsenal is preparing a massive £33 million bid for Sevilla defensive midfielder Grzegorz Krychowiak in January to.

The 25-year-old Polish international has been followed by Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger for some time now; with the Sun saying Wenger is now ready to pounce on the midfield enforcer, as he thinks it will give the Gunners and edge in the title race.

With Francis Coquelin and Santi Cazorla out injured until well into the New Year, Wenger is relying on Aaron Ramsey and holding midfielder Mathieu Flamini to fill the void.

At some point during the busy holiday period the Sun says the Gunners boss will play defender Calum Chambers in midfield, so the 31-year-old French veteran Mathieu Flamini can be given a rest.

Wenger could have signed Krychowiak over the summer for much less than he will have to pay now, after the Pole signed a new contract with the La Liga side that the IBT claims contains a £32.8 million buyout clause.

The IBT also points out that this is typical of Sevilla when they realize a big club is interested in one of their players, having done the same thing with Jesus Navas, Alvaro Negredo, Ivan Rakitic, Alberto Moreno, Carlo Bacca and Aleix Vidal before they all left for pastures new.

The London Evening Standard claims that Wenger has £80 million available to spend in January, and with Flamini, Rosicky and Arteta all set to leave the club in the summer as free agents the savings on the weekly wage bill more than covers the £100,000 per-week the Sun claims Krychowiak would want in order to move to the Emirates.

The big Pole is very good at reading the game, and is able to shut down passing lanes with ease averaging five interceptions and three tackles per-game (via WhoScored).

Just seeing the stats and from what we know of watching him in La Liga, he could be just the player Arsenal needs to help win their first league title since 2004.
