Arsenal to beat Spurs by signing Ajax defender

Arsenal is determined to have a good summer signing season and are eager to beat north London rivals for the signature of Ajax defender Joel Veltman.
As the future of Captain Thomas Veramelen still remains unclear the Gunners are preparing for his departure by signing the 22-year-old Amsterdam defender as a backup for current players.
The Telegraph is reporting that Tottenham are also looking at Veltman as a replacement for Jan Vertonghen, should the Belgium international leave during the summer after remarks he made saying that he would have to reassess his situation should Tottenham fail to get in the Champions League.
Meanwhile Vermaelen has slipped down the pecking order to Laurent Koscielny and Per Mertesacker in Wenger’s squad and now looks to be headed for the exit.
Veltman would prove to be an excellent player for both clubs, but after having lost out on Vertonghen the Gunners will not want to lose their chance to sign Veltman
