Arsenal left-back Nacho Monreal has hinted that he is ready to turn down the chance to return to the Basque country by saying no to a big money move to Athletic Bilbao.
Born in Pamplona there were fears that a move to bring the 29-year-old defender back home would be too tempting given the fact the La Liga club were willing to offer the Arsenal defender a long-term contract.
Monreal has now poured cold water on the rumours that he is about to leave the club he joined in 2013 from Malaga saying: “I’m very happy at Arsenal”.
“Of course I enjoyed playing in a lot of the games last season and that is the target again – that’s all I can say right now.”
