In a news that will surely delight Arsenal fans, Italian media outlet La Gazzetta dello Sport are reporting Arsenal are close to completing the signing of AS Roma Nigerian youth international Umar Sadiq.

The high rated Nigerian had previously been linked with both Arsenal and Dortmund but Liverpool and Tottenham have now entered the race for the striker’s signature but if La Gazzetta dello Sport is to be believed, the player prefers to sign for Arsenal and Arsenal are as a matter of fact very advanced in their decision for the signing of the player. Dortmund were said to be the forerunners for the signature of the player but it appears Arsenal have now moved in front of the German.

Umar Sadiq, who has been likened to former Nigeria and Arsenal striker Nwankwo Kanu, is currently on loan at Roma from Serie B outfit Spezia but Roma have a clause that enables them make the loan deal a permanent one for just £2 million and if you believe the reports from both England, Germany and Italy, Roma will make quick profit by re-selling him to Arsenal or any of the other interested clubs.

It is believed Arsenal will be paying as much as £9.6m for the signature of the Nigerian and should he join, it will be interesting to see if he will be first team option of star from the reserve them.

It will be nice if Arsenal can sign the Nigerian as he seems to be a very good player but Wenger should not make the mistake of thinking a rookie such as Umar Sadiq will win the Gunners the title next season. There is nothing bad in signing a young player but Wenger should note that that must not disturb signing a reliable centre forward for the first team.
