It would appear as if Arsenal is ready to bow out of the race for Southampton midfielder Morgan Schneiderlin after having seen some fine performances by Francis Coquelin as a defensive midfielder.
Arsenal were expected to make a bid for French international Schneiderlin after having tracked the 25-year-old for over a year, but now according to the Mirror have cooled their interest following the emergence of Coquelin since his return to the Emirates after a loan spell with Charlton.
It is still thought however that Schneiderlin is looking for a move away from St Marys in the hope of joining a club that will be playing in the Champions League after he said last month: ‘I no longer want to be in front of my TV every Tuesday and Wednesday.
‘In August, I wanted to progress my career but the club had let too many players go to sell me.
‘Since then, I have had talks with the directors and I want to play at a higher level. It is important, at 25-years-old, to finally play in the Champions League.’
