Arsenal goalkeeper Wojciech Szczesny is trying to put as much distance between himself and his father as he prepares to feature in this afternoons FA Cup final against Aston Villa at Wembley.

The Polish international has only played in cup competition since Wenger caught him smoking in the showers following the defeat on New Year’s Day, which due to Szczesny’s mistakes in the match cost him his starting place to Colombian international David Ospina.

His father Maciej, a former Poland N0.1 has blamed Per Mertesacker and the Defence for getting his son dropped saying the lanky German had “the agility of a rhinoceros” when being interviewed by Polish newspaper Przeglad Sportowy, and calling the smoking incident blown at of all proportions by the media.

The Gunners keeper so incensed by his father’s interference took to Facebook on Friday posting the following comments.

“Really shouldn’t be dealing with this one day before the cup final but my father leaves me no choice.”

“I have not spoken to him in more than 2 years and just like everybody else I have had enough of his idiotic comments about The Football Club and The Manager I owe so much to!

“Therefore please do not consider his comments as my shared view.

“Thank You for your understanding!”
