Arsene Wenger has made Marouane Fellaini his number one target in the January ¬window.

Belgium international Fellaini, who scored in Everton’s 2-1 win over Sunderland yesterday, signed a new five-year contract a year ago.

But he also hinted in September that he may be ready to quit when he said: “This will be one of my last seasons at Everton.”

Marouane Fellaini is becoming a wanted man after a very impressive start to the current campaign and David Moyes may struggle to keep hold of the Belgian international for much longer.

Arsenal may feel the strong running attack minded midfielder could work well in the hole between the centre of the park and the Gunners front-line but any successful attempt to bring the 24 year old to the Emirates Stadium would involve having to fork out a big sum, probably well in excess of the club’s record transfer spend.

Chelsea are apparently ready to made a £30m bid for the Toffees star and that may well be a bridge too far for the North London club who are not known for splashing the cash.

Though Arsenal have a fair few attack minded creative midfielders the likes of Jack Wilshere, Aaron Ramsey, Tomas Rosicky and Abou Diaby do not offer much in the way of goal threat and whilst Spaniard Mikel Arteta is usually on hand to weigh in with a decent tally the former Everton man is currently being used in a holding role that makes his forward runs less frequently than previously.

Fellaini is in his fifth season at Goodison Park and may well feel it’s time to move on despite the fact that his Everton side have started the current campaign well.
