It now seems ages since Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger annoyed then Newcastle boss Alan Pardew by putting in an offer of £10 million for Magpies captain Yohan Cabaye, which the now Crystal Palace manager rejected as not enough finally selling the 29-year-old to Paris Saint-Germain for £19 million.

Since joining the French champions Cabaye has struggled to get a starting place in manger Laurent Blanc’s team making just 19 appearances for the club with eight of them being as a substitute.

Obtaining another central midfielder is no longer a priority for the Gunners boss but with Mathieu Flamini, Abou Diaby and Mikel Arteta’s futures still unresolved it would give Wenger a huge bargaining stick.

Wenger could even get his man for the £10 million he first offered should the Ligue 1 side decide to let him go.
