Arsenal appears to be edging ever closer to signing Chelsea No.2 goalkeeper Petr Cech with reports now suggesting that Gunners manager Arsene Wenger is confident of getting the deal done.

Wenger has not been happy with the form of Wojciech Szczesny benching the 25-year-old after the New Year’s Day defeat at Southampton, and while new No.1 David Ospina has done a good job he is not the top-flight keeper Wenger knows he needs to win the Premiership title.

Meanwhile a move to the Emirates would suit the 33-year-old Chelsea veteran as it would create a situation that would not alter his family’s daily life in London.

As for Szczesny it could signal his time in north London has come to an end.
