Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger believes that last Sundays 3-0 win over Manchester United at the Emirates was vital for their season.

Arsenal produced a first half performance the like of which against a big club like Manchester United have never been seen, with all three goals being scored in less than 19 minutes into the match.

The display of Gunners superiority was just what the Doctor ordered following the teams shock 3-2 loss to Olympiacos in the Champions League that now needs them to get a result against Bundesliga champions Bayern Munich if they are to have any hope of advancing from the group stage of the competition.

“The United game was significant on two fronts,” Wenger told beIN Sports.

“First of all, we had a very disappointing result three days before against Olympiacos and of course that was a huge shock, and secondly it was for us an opportunity to get two points behind the leader, level with Manchester United.

“We also beat them, and on top of that, the third, in recent years we have not beaten United in Championship so on three fronts it was a vital win for us.”
