ANDRE VILLAS-BOAS has helped Jermain Defoe make a ‘bloody’ quick recovery — by using one of Jose Mourinho’s controversial old cures.

It was feared Tottenham striker Defoe could face a few more weeks out with a pelvic problem.

But the England man will make a rapid return to action at Norwich tonight after boss AVB sent him for blood spinning treatment.

Even though the technique is legal, Mourinho was slammed for admitting he used it to treat his players when he was in charge of Chelsea.

But Villas-Boas, who learnt his trade as a member of The Special One’s Blues backroom team, has no concerns about it being used on any of his stars.

AVB said: “We believe in growth factor and plasma platelet treatments.

“It is not common but does happen. The player adhered to the treatment very well.

“You take out the blood from any part of the body and spin it around. The plasma comes to the top and you inject it back into the body.

“That is the blood that heals injuries. It accelerates the recovery process. The day he felt the injury was Friday and he had the injection thing. Now he is available for selection. That is the remarkable thing.”

Villas-Boas will have new signing Lewis Holtby available for the trip to the Canaries after Tottenham paid Schalke £1.5million to let them have him six months before he was due to join on a free.

AVB said: “He will fill the No 10 position.

“We can compare him to Rafa van der Vaart — an international coming from Real Madrid.

“We have high expectations for the player.”
