In a move designed to keep two of their best players at Saint Marys this summer Southampton has gone and doubled the salaries of Morgan Schneiderlin and Nathaniel Clyne.

England international full-back Nathaniel Clyne is wanted by both Liverpool and Manchester United while the £25 million rated French international defensive midfielder Morgan Schneiderlin is thought to be Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger’s number one summer transfer target.

Schneiderlin currently earns £30,000 per-week with the Saints ready to double it to £60,000 per-week if he accepts a contract extension on his current deal which expires in 2017.

Clyne meanwhile will see his pay jump from £25,000 per-week to £50,000 per-week in what is seen as an unprecedented move by the south coast club.

The decision maker for the two players could come down to the fact of whether or not Southampton finishes in the top-four and can offer Champions League football next season.

The 23-year-old Clyne will be the easier of the two to convince to stay as he knows he is almost certainly guaranteed first team football each week, something he may not get at either Old Trafford or Anfield.

As for Schneiderlin we think he has already made his decision and will be heading up to the Emirates once the season is over regardless of where Southampton finishes in the league.
