BRENDAN RODGERS praised his Liverpool stars after a Luis Suarez goal earned a draw.
He said: “The players have been terrific at the end of what has been a difficult week for the city.
“Some of players have been involved in the tragedy with relatives, so it has been a really emotional time.
“When you sign for Liverpool, it’s part of the contract.
“As a player you sign your agreement. But you also sign an agreement and a contract with the fans — an emotional one. That’s all a part of the journey at Liverpool.
“The support was exceptional and they kept driving a young team on.”
Suarez struck on 71 minutes to cancel out Steven Fletcher’s first-half opener for Sunderland, though the Reds still have just two points and no wins to show from four Prem games.
Rodgers revealed it was a club idea to come out wearing black tracksuit tops with No 96 on the back.
He added: “It wasn’t about being eye-catching. It was about being respectful.”
Black Cats boss Martin O’Neill said: “Fans were great on both sides.”
