Juan Mata, Arsene Wenger

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has told Sky Sports that Chelsea’s decision now to sell Juan Mata lacks “fairness.”

As of the moment it appears that the 25-year-old Spanish international midfielder has agreed to join Manchester United for a fee of £40 million and is currently at Old Trafford undergoing a medical.

Wenger however feels that it is not fair that Chelsea should decide to sell Mata now after the two clubs have now played each other twice and will not meet again this season.

“I am surprised. Juan Mata is a great player and they sell a great player to a direct opponent,” Wenger said.

“Chelsea have already played twice against Man United, they could have sold him last week.

“I think if you want to respect the fairness for everybody, this should not happen.

“I can understand completely what Chelsea are doing, and they do not make the rules, but maybe the rules should be a bit more adapted for fairness.”

Arsenal is only two points ahead of Chelsea and now could face the possibility of having to play against Mata when the two clubs meet on February 12th.

None of this talk will of course bother United manager David Moyes who has been bombarded with abuse following United’s poor start to the season.
