Borussia Dortmund defender Lukasz Piszczek has voiced his admiration for Real Madrid star Cristiano Ronaldo and realises he faces a tough task to contain him in their Champions League semi-final tie.
Piszczek and Ronaldo previously locked horns in the group stages, but the right-back believes that’s not necessarily an advantage as he feels the Portuguese has what it takes to always come up with something new.
“There’s only so much you can do against players like Ronaldo, [Lionel] Messi and a couple of others. They’ve got so much quality that they’re always capable of coming up with something new,” the Poland international told the official Bundesliga website.
“When Real have the ball our whole team will defend, it won’t just be down to me. We need to defend well as a unit, then it’ll be easier for everyone. We’re going to try and give it our all and hopefully pick up a good result.”
Piszczek then went on to stress that a goalless draw in the home game against Madrid could be a good result ahead of the second leg at the Santiago Bernabeu next week.
“We want to win but a goalless draw wouldn’t be bad. Against Malaga we saw for ourselves just how difficult it can be at home after a 0-0 draw in the first leg,” he continued.
“We’ve had a terrific Champions League campaign so far, which is why we’re determined to get a good result against Real. It’ll definitely be an interesting match. We’re all really looking forward to it.”
Wednesday’s first leg at the Signal Iduna Park kicks off at 20:45CET.
