Manchester United has apparently agreed terms with 27-year-old central defender Nicolas Otamendi, and also agreed to pay his club Valencia £25 million to allow the Argentinian international to move to Old Trafford.
Italian sports journalist t Nicolo Schira has written that all the pieces are coming together nicely and that a deal should be announced soon.
Schira said: “Manchester United looking to close the deal for Nicolas Otamendi from Valencia for £25m.
“MUFC has offered a contract until 2019.”
Meanwhile Otamendi has a £36m release clause built into his contract at the Mestalla, but the Red Devils are confident of getting their man for a lesser fee after the players agent last month revealed the tough tackling defender wanted to leave.
Eugenio Lopez said: “Nicolas told Salvo to his face that he wanted to leave Valencia in the summer.
“Nicolas is happy at Valencia and with the fans but he’s got an option to improve on a professional level.
“Nico is going to do everything [possible] to leave.”
