arsenal, liverpool

Yesterday we reported that Liverpool had put in a bid for Villarreal striker Luciano Vietto that triggered his £14.2 million release clause after having watched the 21-year-old light-up La Liga with his 28 goals in all competitions last season.

Arsenal too want the young star from Cordoba to join them at the Emirates, so this morning tabled their own bid with the Spanish club while hoping to better what Liverpool has offered.

If it comes down to a battle between the two Premiership sides, Arsenal feel that they have the edge not only being able to offer the youngster the excitement of living in the capital rather than the gloomy north west but also Champions League football next season, something which Liverpool cannot offer.

Before Gooner’s get all excited about the prospect of having one of Europe’s top talents playing for the Gunners next season, we need to remind you that his preferred choice would be to join fellow Argentinian Diego Simeone at Athletico Madrid.
