Manchester United winger Angel Di Maria has pleaded with manager Louis van Gaal to sign Benfica’s £30 rated Nicolas Gaitan in January according to the Daily Express.
The Argentinian international was linked with Manchester United during the summer, but now Di Maria has stepped in hoping that he can push the deal through.
Despite Gaitan being Di Maria’s replacement at Benfica when he moved to play for Real Madrid the two players are both teammates in the Argentinian national side, and Di Maria thinks he would be the perfect man for United’s midfield.
The 26-year-old signed a new contract with Benfica in November and now has a £30 million release clause, and yet despite this Di Maria is trying to persuade the hierarchy at Old Trafford that they would be getting him cheaply.
Other clubs including Liverpool have been linked with Gaitan in the past, but it is now up to Di Maria to use his influence to make sure his friend joins United in January.
