Arsenal are reported to be in ‘advanced negotiations’ with French club Rennes over the signature of Yann M’Vila.

Yann M'Vila 'transfer talks with Arsenal at advanced stage'

Gunners’ boss Arsene Wenger has been keeping tabs on the 21-year-old for months and regards the highly-rated youngster as an ideal support for Alex Song in Arsenal’s midfield.

According to France Football, Wenger has been pushed to begin negotiations after rumours circulated that Bayern Munich and Inter Milan were taking an interest in the midfielder.

It is thought the French international, who has been capped 18 times by his country, could set the Gunners back around £22 million.

M’Vila currently has three years remaining on his contract at Rennes, but his boss Frederic Antonetti recently accepted that his star man is likely to leave in the summer.

He has previously stated that it would be difficult to turn down a move to a club managed by a fellow Frenchman, which puts Arsenal in the lead in the race for his signature.

Should M’Vila make a move to the Emirates in the summer transfer window, he will face competition for a place from the returning Denilson.

The midfielder has failed to secure a permanent move to Sao Paolo following his loan period at the club.

According to the Sun, Arsenal want the 24-year-old back before pre-season training in July, even though the player would have preferred to remain in Brazil.

‘I would stay another six months, but the decision is not mine,’ said Denilson.

‘I have a contract with Arsenal and I have to stick to it.’
