According to this morning’s Daily Express, title chasing Tottenham are going to make an approach for Arsenal defensive midfield target Victor Wanyama over a summer move to White Hart Lane.

The 24-year-old Kenyan international is entering the final year of his contract with Southampton and according to the Daily Mail, Tottenham will use this to their advantage.

Spurs manager Mauricio Pochettino first signed Wanyama for Southampton when he was in charge of the Saints back in 2013, and now the Daily Mail claims the Argentinean manager wants the midfielder to join him in North London rather than see him go to rivals Arsenal.

The Gunners have been linked with a move for Wanyama the last two transfer windows, and when asked about a possible deal before the January transfer window, Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger said: “I rate the player, but we are not on the case.

“We will see what is there. We have a whole December to go first.”

Saints boss Ronald Koeman closed the door on any of his players leaving halfway through the season claiming that it was impossible for any of his players to leave the club.

“Don’t spend time trying to buy a player from Southampton because it’s impossible,” Koeman said.

“That means in January nobody will leave Southampton.”

Summer however is a different kettle of fish with Arsenal especially ready to spend big on players following the solitary signing of goalkeeper Petr Cech during the last summer transfer window.
