Manchester United manager Louis van Gaal has spoken about why he offered Andreas Pereira a new contract at Old Trafford.

The Brazilian midfielder who was born in Belgium joined United in 2011 from Dutch club PSV Eindhoven, and was prior to signing a new deal with the Red devils being linked to Paris Saint-Germain.

Yet instead of moving to the French capital he decided he would rather stay at Manchester United and force his way into Louis van Gaal’s team.

“I am delighted that Andreas has signed a new contract,” the former Holland boss said:”Andreas has all the attributes to become an integral part of the first team; great natural talent coupled with a good appetite to learn.

“I am pleased with his progression so far this season and look forward to working with him to develop his talent even further.”
