Wenger to rest Alexis but may play Paulista

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger is set to rest forward Alexis Sanchez for the match against Aston Villa on Sunday, but has hinted that recent signing Gabriel Paulista may make his debut for the club.

Chilean international Sanchez has featured in every Arsenal game but one this season and is believed to be suffering from a slightly strained hamstring that Wenger feels would benefit from a day off.

Meanwhile the Frenchman now has a fully fit Mesut Ozil and Theo Walcott to select from after the pair returned to the fold against Brighton.

When asked about the clubs new Brazilian Wenger said: “I saw great quality. His level of concentration, he’s quick, has great commitment and he’s young”

“We are in a job where competition exists. The best player of the moment plays.”

There is also some positive news regarding Jack Wilshere with Wenger saying the midfielder could be back in less than two weeks.

He added: “Jack is doing very well. He is a week ahead of schedule and should return in 10 days.”

The Gunners will however be without Danny Welbeck and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain with the Ox also expected to miss the local derby on the 7th after a groin injury picked up in the win over City.
