Wenger plays down transfer talk ahead of big game with Chelsea

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger was only 44 minutes late for his pre-match press conference today ahead of the big match with Chelsea at the weekend, but the news was worth waiting for as far as injuries are concerned with the Gunners boss saying:

“We have no big problems. Ozil will be available.

“Sanchez has the next two days to prove it but I think this time will be available.

“Coquelin’s back in full training today, ahead of schedule. Welbeck will be in full training next week.

“Rosicky will play with the Under-21s.”

When speaking about Sundays opponents Wenger had this to say:

“It’s a big game. We know how important it will be to win these games.

“They are not in this title race but they are direct rivals because of the quality of their team. Nobody could predict [their season].

“They will be back.”

When asked about transfers Wenger replied:

“You will certainly over the next ten days have some work to do, not especially with Arsenal.
“We are always open to the exceptional cases. At the moment I expect our last ten days [of the transfer window] to be quiet.”

When asked about Sanchez Wenger said:

“The doubt is that he has been out for a long time and it is a great risk of a setback.

“He has cleared on all the tests. That’s one thing. Then he has to clear training.

“I am cautious with him. We do not want to take a gamble but the signs he has shown in training are good.”
