West Ham, Arsenal

Arsenal is busy trying to decide if they want to make an offer for West Ham defender Winston Reid during the January transfer window.

Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger is afraid that Thomas Vermaelen will be looking to leave the club, as he is not getting enough playing time in a year that the Belgium international feels as though he should be playing first team football if he wants to secure his place in Belgium’s very talented World Cup squad.

Having watched how Reid has developed over the past 18 months he is up there with the other transfer targets that the Gunners boss would like to bring to the Emirates.

And having followed his progress closely in the last 18 months, Hammers ace Reid has emerged as one of Wenger’s top targets.

The 25-year-old is also a top pick of scout Steve Rowley who has been providing Wenger with all the stats on the New Zealand international.

Arsenal are not the only club that have been following the 6ft 3in powerhouse with both Manchester United and Liverpool thought to be rival bidders.

It would make sense for Arsenal to sign the centre-back for what is believed to be around £6 million as Wenger looks to increase the depth in his squad.
