Walcott is no longer guaranteed a start for Arsenal

The arrival last summer of Alexis Sanchez from Barcelona and the amount of playing time Theo Walcott has missed while being out injured has now pushed the former Gunners star and England golden boy out of the spotlight at his club, and also on the international stage as well.

With Alexis Sanchez limping off injured after suffering a kick to his knee in the midweek match with Leicester City, it might present Walcott with an opportunity to show not only Arsene Wenger, but also England manager Roy Hodgson that he deserved to be a vital part of their teams as Arsenal take on Middlesbrough in the fifth round of the FA Cup on Sunday.

Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger admitted last night that Walcott was no longer guaranteed a start at the Emirates when they have a player like Alexis who has already scored 18 goals so far this season.

Wenger said: “Walcott can score goals but Sanchez has had the biggest offensive impact up to now. Theo’s fitness is there now but we will see game by game.”

When asked about Alexis the manager added: “Sanchez has had a little winter break but he didn’t look right on Tuesday night. He got a knock on his knee. There was not the same intensity as before.”
