Van Persie wants Rooney to stay

In another sign that Wayne Rooney’s Manchester United’s days are over the England international will miss the Community Shield match between United and Wigan Athletic at Wembley Stadium on August 11th due to a so called shoulder injury.

Chelsea have so far had two bids rejected for the England striker, and reports out today suggest that Arsenal could once again became interested in the 27-year-old following Liverpool’s hard line stance on their top player Luis Suarez.

Fellow Manchester United player Robin van Persie to the British daily tabloid the Sun, that he would very much like Rooney to stay saying:

“Everyone wants Wayne to stay and deep down I think he feels the same.

“One of the reasons I joined Manchester United was to play with Wayne.

“I hope he stays. Not only is he a great goalscorer, he does so much work across the pitch.

“He hates to lose and that’s why you see him one minute pressing for goal, the next minute defending ferociously. He is an asset to any team.

“He will come good again. He is a strong lad.”

While all the injury talk and not playing at United is taking place England manager Roy Hodgson has called Rooney up to play against Scotland in midweek, where it will be interesting to see if he is fit enough to play for England, and yet is unfit to play for Manchester United.
