David Moyes the manager of Manchester United has suffered a setback in their pursuit of Barcelona midfielder Cesc Fabregas, and have now returned to another man on Moyes’s list Real Madrid’s Luka Modric.

While Manchester United has still not given up on signing the Catalan it is looking as if a deal will never happen save for a dramatic development.

27-year-old Croatian midfielder Modric has claimed himself a starting role last season with Los Blancos and looks set to repeat that performance under new manager Carlo Ancelotti.

In other United news defender Nemanja Vidic is back in training after having missed United’s summer tour with a sciatica problem, and is set to make his return against AIK Stockholm in Sweden a week on Tuesday.

Meanwhile club captain Rio Ferdinand has been impressed with new signing Wilfried Zaha who was impressive on tour saying:

“Wilfried is a fantastic talent. That is why you pay £15m for a kid,” said Ferdinand, 34.

“He is raw, with great individual skills and the early indications are that he is a hard worker. Hopefully we have a top player on our hands.”
