Manchester United winger Ashley Young is said to be willing to take a wage cut in order to stay at Old Trafford according to the Daily Mail.

On first vision this might seem a rather strange option as players seem to be always looking for more money rather than sacrificing themselves for the club, but in Ashley Young’s case it could prove to be a very wise move.

Young has revived his career at United in recent months under manager Louis van Gaal after filling in at wing-back since reclaiming his place in the Dutchman’s team.

The former Aston Villa man moved to Old Trafford in 2011 for £17 million after having agreed a five-year contract with a wage of £120,000 per-week, yet now 29-years-old and his current deal set to expire next summer Young is willing to take a cut in wages if United will offer him another long-term contract.

Many clubs nowadays tend to only offer one or two years to players once they turn 30, and could Young convince them to give him five-more-years on less money it could prove to be a masterstroke.
