Manchester United is set to continue their pursuit of Juventus and Chilean international Arturo Vidal when the transfer window re-opens.

Vidal was a transfer target for Manchester United all-through the past summer but United couldn’t agree a deal with Juventus to see the 27-year-old Chilean international move to Old Trafford. But it has emerged that United are set to tempt Juventus’ resolve to keep their star man with an offer believed to be in the region of €66m come January.

Manchester United already signed Angel Di Maria- a club and British record signing, Ander Herrera, Daley blind, Marcos Rojo, and Luke Shaw in a deal worth over £150m and are set to continue their spending spree to rebuild a club which looks like a ghost of its former self.

Vidal has earlier stated his desire to continue plying his trade at the Turin outfit having just signed a contract extension but in football you never know what will happen. The acquisition of Vidal to the United’s midfield will add more steel to the side that have looked on most occasions unimpressive this season.

Will Juventus be ready to part with their prize asset is a question only Massimiliano Allegri can answer but there could be a player-plus-cash deal that will see Manchester United’s Juan Mata move to Juventus.

There were concerns over the recurrent knew injury of Vidal over the summer but the player have recovered quickly to play for his club. He has featured six times this season in all competition for Juventus with two of those coming as a substitute and has scored two goals.

There is no doubt what Vidal can bring to the team but United should look beyond getting the Chilean as there are more areas of pressing need. United’s attacking prowess this season have been overshadowed by their woeful defending. The duo of Jonny Evans and Chris Smalling are not the sort of defenders you will want to rely on at a club like Manchester United.

Louis Van Gaal should make signing of one or two world class defenders a top priority this coming window. Winning games in EPL is a function of how well you are able to defend your goals as opposition are ready to outscore you as can be seen in United’s 5-3 loss to newly promoted Leicester City.

Manchester United has the money to spend. Signing a defender should be top priority though bringing in a midfielder like Arturo Vidal will give the team a lot of spine even as they look to rebuild the squad in the post Ferguson Era. United currently sits 4th on the table with 11points from seven game and are nine points adrift of league leaders Chelsea.
