Simon Johnson of the Evening Standard is today reporting that Arsenal and Chelsea target Sami Khedira has handed the two London clubs a transfer blow by hinting at signing a new contract with his current club Real Madrid.

The 27-year-old midfielders contract expires at the end of the year with both Arsenal and Chelsea expected to make a bid for his services.

The German international has already turned down two offers earlier in the season to extend his current contract with Los Blancos making other clubs think he was ready to leave after no longer being a regular in trainer Carlo Ancelotti’s team with new signing Toni Kroos from Bayern Munich now the preferred choice.

Khedira is not bitter about having his German teammate at Madrid saying: “He’s doing really well. He’s only been here for half a year and he’s already a key cog in our system.”

Adding: “I’d be happy if we found a solution (between himself and Madrid).”I’m in good shape again and so I’m very confident that I’m going to get my chances to play very soon. I’m a fan of fierce competition.”
