Tottenham Hotspur are to continue with Brad Friedel in goal after his impressive performance against Norwich City, despite the arrival of France international Hugo Lloris.

Tottenham Hotspur To Opt For Friedel Despite Arrival Of French No 1

The American was unable to stop Robert Snodgrass’ equaliser as Norwich city deservedly claimed an equaliser at White Hart Lane Saturday afternoon, but a string of spectacular saves kept a lackluster Spurs side in the game at times, which rightfully earned the 41-year-old praise from his manager.

Hugo Lloris’ deadline day arrival from Lyon fuelled speculation that Friedel was set to be dropped from Spurs’ starting eleven, but Andre-Villas-Boas’ comments following the draw, in additional to Friedel’s goal line heroics have suggested that Lloris will be bedded into the team slowly, and will be very much seen as a goal keeper for the future.

When you transfer it’s not written in the contract that you have to play,” Villas-Boas said, the Guardian report. “Brad is doing extremely well and deserves to be playing and he’ll continue to do so.

“The Premier League’s a specific league and we want to build for the future, so we decided to bring in Hugo now as he can be our keeper in future. We have to work with that and he will have to adapt to the Premier League.

“There are players that need more time, players that need less time. But again, when you have a keeper that gives so much confidence to the team and is doing so well like Brad, he deserves to be in goal.”
