LINE-UP: Arsenal team to play Southampton

Karim Benzema may after all still play in Arsenal colours before he ends his career. According to Daily star, Real Madrid are working on signing Robert Lewandowski from Bayern Munich this summer and should that happen, Benzema will find himself surplus to requirement at the Santiago Bernabeu. Daily Star reckons if Real Madrid manages to sign Lewandowski, they will be willing to sell Karim Benzema should the right offer be made for the services of the Frenchman.

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger is a known admirer of the high rated Frenchman. Arsenal have always been linked to the signing of Benzema. In 2009 before he decided to sign for Real Madrid, Arsenal were thought to be the likeliest to sign him but the as would any player, Benzema decided to go to Real Madrid instead. In 2013, just before Arsenal signed Mesut Ozil, the Gunners were linked with the signing of Karim Benzema first but ended up getting Mesut Ozil when Real Madrid decided not to sell.

Again last summer, Arsenal were said to be interested in signing Benzema but the player decided staying at Real Madrid is better. However, Benzema may have no other choice than to leave this summer if Real Madrid deems him surplus to requirement.

Di Maria never wanted to sign for Arsenal a season before he signed but the following season when Real Madrid got what they believe is a bigger and better player, they forced the Argentine out. The same situation could well play out this summer and will be to Arsenal’s advantage should that happens.

Benzema will certainly improve the current Arsenal side. He and Ozil know each other well enough. Signing the Frenchman will mean the bulk of the many matches Mesut Ozil creates per match will no longer be wasted. This could even convicne the German to renew his deal with Arsenal.

Signing Benzema could even convince Mesut Ozil to finally sign an extension to his contract with the Gunners. In 26 games in the La Liga this season, Benzema has scored 24 times and this is despite he having to deal with different off the field problems in his personal life.

At Real Madrid, all the players play for Ronaldo which means Benzema’s stats could even have been better than the one stated above. At Arsenal, Arsenal’s midfielders will be working for him to score which means he could be scoring as much as 30 goals in the Premier League alone per season.

If Giroud who we all agree is an average striker could score 22 goals this season for Arsenal, Benzema will certainly be scoring upward of 32 goals a season.
