Jose Mourinho’s first task when he takes over at Chelsea again will be to determine John Terry’s long-term future.

The Blues skipper has 12 months remaining on his £150,000-a-week deal and is anxious to secure an extension but Mourinho will have the final say.

Chelsea are reluctant to give older players new deals, but Ashley Cole and Frank Lampard signed one-year contract extentions earlier this season.

Lampard said a few weeks ago: ‘I know JT will want to stay, he’s said he’d love to stay at Chelsea. He feels the same as me.

‘Why play anywhere else when you love the club you’re at? JT’s the captain of the club and does a brilliant job.

‘At the start of next season, I think that’s when the club will take a view on it. I know what my view would be.’
