Stoke City manager Mark Hughes insists that the Potters will not be making any significant signings during the January transfer window, but if they do get anyone it will probably be a part of a loan deal.

“We won’t be spending any significant amounts of money I would suggest. We may look at loans, we may look at opportunities to bring younger players if they are available but any significant business in terms of financial outlay I don’t think we will be doing that. We only have a certain amount of money we can spend in any given season and it may be that we keep what we have and invest in the summer which would probably make more sense. January is very difficult to get the players that you feel you need during that window. We will see how we go. In terms of targets I wouldn’t say there is anyone we are focussing on.”
