Liverpool in the end managed to hold out for close to what they wanted, selling 20-year-old Raheem Sterling to Manchester City for £44 million in cash and another £5 million in performance based add-ons.

As for Sterling he will receive £180,000 per-week, some £80,000 more than Liverpool offered him to sign a new contract at Anfield, while committing his future to the Etihad for the next five-years.

If and this is a big question he keeps on developing as a footballer , by the time his new contract is up he will still only be 25-years-old and supposedly in his prime which is the reason City were prepared to pay such big money for him now.

The England star is now set to undergo a medical at City today before flying out on Tuesday to join his new team who are currently on their pre-season tour of Australia.

As for Liverpool they will be glad that this protracted saga is over and move ahead with their summer transfer plans.
