Marseille defender Stephane Mbia is set to undergo a medical ahead of a permanent move to Queens Park Rangers.

Stephane Mbia to have QPR medical after Sam Magri signs

Marseille’s sports director Jose Anigo claims a loan move has been agreed for Joey Barton but says it is dependent on Mbia, 26, going the other way.

He said: “The two clubs have reached an agreement. Mbia still has to find one with QPR, then Joey will be here.”

Mbia would become QPR’s second signing of deadline day after Sam Magri joined on a two-year deal from Portsmouth.

Pompey agreed to release the 18-year-old centre-half from the final year of his contract at Fratton Park so that he could join the Premier League club.

The England youth international made one senior appearance for his hometown club and will go straight into the Hoops’ development squad.

“QPR are really going places and I’m looking forward to writing the next chapter of my career here,” he said.

“I just want to keep learning and progressing as a player. The new Under-21 league is a great platform for young players like myself and I can’t wait to meet my new team-mates and start playing.”
