TOTTENHAM are poised to promote Tim Sherwood to director of football and hot up their pursuit of Andre Villas-Boas.

Spurs put Sher-t on Tim ’n AVB

Former Chelsea boss Villas-Boas is emerging as a strong contender to replace Harry Redknapp, along with Spurs legend Jurgen Klinsmann and Wigan’s Roberto Martinez.

Sherwood is one of the few surviving members of sacked Redknapp’s backroom staff and is in line for a second promotion in two years.

The former Spurs midfielder, 43, was appointed technical co-ordinator in 2010 with the responsibility to manage player development across all squads.

Virtually all of Redknapp’s coaching team were also given the boot after his Wednesday exit.

But Sherwood, who was brought in as an assistant first-team coach in November 2008, remains at White Hart Lane.

There were rumours that he and Redknapp did not always see eye to eye — something they both strenuously deny.

Chairman Daniel Levy’s No 1 target Villas-Boas also worked with a technical director at Chelsea.

Michael Emenalo was appointed at virtually the same time as the Portuguese was unveiled at Stamford Bridge in July 2011.
