Spanish striker Iago Aspas has admitted that he is finding it difficult to be a substitute at Liverpool after moving in the summer from La Liga side Celta Vigo for £7.5 million.

The 26-year-old looked good on Liverpool’s summer tour of the Far East and Australia, but has failed to score a single goal in the six games he has played.

Even former Liverpool player and now television pundit Graham Souness said on air if anybody can tell me what Aspas does please send me an email.

‘I’m finding it hard to be a sub at Liverpool having started games in the past few years,’ he said.

‘When I left Celta Vigo I was aware that to start for Liverpool wasn’t going to be easy,’ added Aspas.

‘And now the team is winning and we are among the leaders in the Premier League, it’s much harder to get a game.’

It is going to be tough for Aspas to get a start when he is competing for a place with Luis Suarez and Daniel Sturridge who between them have scored nine goals to help Liverpool to second place in the league.

Aspas is not concerned about the other players and believes with hard work on the training pitch he can get back in favour with Rodgers.

‘I hope to carry on working hard and little by little to get more game time with Liverpool. I want to change the current situation.’

Aspas has seen how fellow Spaniard Michu has got himself called up to the national team after a great performance last season.

‘Now it’s difficult to get in the Spain team because I’m playing less but I’m not worried about that. However, I will try to get in the squad.’

‘I know Michu and I congratulated him on getting called up by Vicente Del Bosque. I told him to work really hard so will stay in the squad.’
