Southampton has made their second summer signing after landing Cedric Soares from Sporting Lisbon for an undisclosed fee.

The 23-year-old right-back made 24 appearances for Sporting last season, and Saints boss Ronald Koeman is hoping that a good understanding between him and his fellow Portuguese national teammate Jose Fonte will develop at St Marys.

This move now effectively signals the end of Nathanial Clyne’s time at the club freeing up the England international to make a move to either Manchester United or Liverpool.

While speaking about their latest acquisition, Southampton’s Executive Director of Football Les Reed said: “Cédric represents a quality addition to our squad, and is another player with a desire and hunger to succeed.

“Like Juanmi, Cédric is a young player with international experience as well as exceptional talent and potential. He joined Sporting’s academy at the age of eight and progressed through to first-team football and international recognition – a pathway previously trodden by a number of our own home-grown stars.
