Liverpool manager Jürgen Klopp has said that he expects to have a quiet time during the January transfer window, but given the state of the team’s current defence a move for Schalke defender Joel Matip could be on the cards.

The 24-year-old German born Cameroonian international is a free agent come summer, with Schalke already resigned to losing him a relatively small transfer fee should be enough to secure his services in January rather than waiting to get him for free at the end of the season.

Klopp is a known admirer of Matip, and given the fact he is equally at home playing as defensive midfielder or centre back he could prove to be a wise addition to the squad and may help Liverpool to get that top four spot the clubs wants.
