Wigan want Arsenal’s young Japanese star Ryo Miyaichi on loan – to replace Victor Moses.
Latics manager Roberto Martinez is in talks to borrow Miyaichi, who showed pace and skill while on loan at Bolton during their doomed fight for Premier League survival last season, for the whole of the coming campaign.
Miyaichi will be sent out on loan again by the Gunners, and manager Arsene Wenger wants him to move to a Premier League club rather than to a Championship outfit or abroad.
The 19-year-old forward may be cleared to join Wigan shortly – a deal needs to be completed soon to let him sort out his work permit situation – and agree terms.
Landing Miyaichi would give Wigan either a ready-made replacement for Chelsea target Moses or another player to compete for a place in their attack.
Martinez is waiting for the European champions to make an improved bid for Moses, who will not sign a new contract and will be sold if the right offer comes in.
