Italian Serie A side AS Roma has apparently pulled the carpet from under Liverpool’s feet and is now favourites to land Paris Saint-Germain left-back Lucas Digne.

The French international has seen limited opportunities at the Parc des Princes after having fallen behind Brazilian Maxwell in trainer Laurent Blanc’s pecking order, and with under a year to go until next summer’s European Championships is looking to play regular first team football.

Liverpool was looking at the 22-year-old to provide competition for Spaniard Alberto Moreno, but since manager Brendan Rodgers deployed new boy Joe Gomez at left back has cooled his interest in Digne leaving Roma to swoop in.

According to L’Equipe a loan deal has been agreed upon with the Italians given the option to buy Digne at the end of the season for 25€ million.
