News emerging this afternoon have revealed that Arsenal have agreed to pay Granit Xhaka a total of £120,000-a-week. The Gunners have been said to be talking to the player for some time now. Daily mirror reported two days ago that Arsenal have made an official £24 millipn bid for the Swiss star which was outrightly rejected by Borussia Monchengladbach who are demanding for as much as £32 million.
With Flamini, Rosicky and Arteta likely to leave Arsenal this summer, Arsenal are desperate for the signing of another midfielder and Xhaka would make a lot of sense. His signing will give Coquelin the much needed competition that will make him a better player. For £32 million, Xhaka is definitely not coming to warm the bench and it will be interesting to see who Wenger will play as first choice between Coquelin and Xhaka.
Also, the presence of Xhaka means Arsenal won’t have to suffer like they have this season when/if Coquelin gets injured. The injury to Francis Coquelin and that of Santi Cazorla in November can be argued to be the reason why Arsenal have lost the chance of winning the Premier League this season.
With Elneny and now Xhaka coming in, Arsenal will avoid suffering the same fate next season.
